Meet the Team

Kate Vilter Stassen is the owner of Peninsula Provisions. Raised in Cincinnati, Kate’s roots in Northern Michigan run deep—her family built a home in Leland in the early 1940s, and she spent summers here before making it her permanent home in 1997.
Kate studied at George Washington University and Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, initially planning a career in law. Instead, she found her passion in hospitality, managing an inn in Key West and later running Georgia Brown’s, a well-known restaurant in Washington, D.C. In 1997, she returned to Leland to purchase The Riverside Inn with her mother, expecting a short-term project that turned into 24 years of ownership, multiple renovations, a fire, a pandemic, and a lasting mark on the local dining scene. She sold the inn in 2021, ready for a new chapter.
That next chapter came in 2022, when Kate purchased the building that now houses Peninsula Provisions, opening its doors in June 2023. With a focus on exceptional ingredients, thoughtfully selected wines, and a strong sense of community, she has created a space that feels both welcoming and refined—a place where locals and visitors can sip, shop, discover, and enjoy.
In her free time, Kate loves trying new recipes, long walks with her two adorable pups, boating with her family, and exploring new vineyards with her husband and friends. She lives in Lake Leelanau with her husband, Coenraad Stassen, and is the proud mom of Will Sawyer (17).

His career includes notable stints at some of the most prestigious kitchens on the West Coast, such as Catahoula, Bouchone, The French Laundry, and Plumpjack in Tahoe. Brad’s passion for French culinary arts has earned him recognition in the Michelin Guide in 2019.
Throughout his career, he’s worked at various other renowned establishments including Epic Roast House, Star Catering, La Metro Café, The Riverside Inn, Baker Street Bistro, Central Parc, and Town Hall, with a focus on refined French dining. He was also the proud owner of Revelry, his own restaurant in San Francisco.
Now back in his home county, Brad operates a small vineyard in Leelanau County, where his family has lived for more than 110 years. While enjoying being a single dad to his daughter, Fredi, Brad continues to share his love for French cuisine and the rich culture of the region through his culinary ventures.

With nearly 30 years of hospitality experience spanning the Midwest to San Francisco, Kate Fitts brings a deep-rooted passion for service, storytelling, and community to
Northern Michigan’s wine scene. Now serving as Wine Shop Manager, she blends global perspective with local pride—curating thoughtful selections that celebrate both world-class producers and the rich agricultural heritage of our region.
Over the past decade, Kate has immersed herself in the study of wine and wine production, including completing sommelier examinations with the Court of Master Sommeliers in 2018. This formal training, paired with decades on the hospitality floor, shapes a warm, approachable style grounded in knowledge without pretense. Wine, after all, is about connection—to the land, to the maker, and to one another.
While studying horticulture at Michigan State University, Kate developed an early appreciation for farming, soil health, and the rhythms of the growing season. That foundation continues to influence her philosophy: great wine begins in the vineyard, just as great meals begin with fresh, local ingredients and great communities begin with shared tables.
When not in the shop, you’ll likely find her tending a garden, cooking seasonal meals for friends and family, or exploring Northern Michigan’s lakes and trails with her rescue dog, Bonnie Raitt. Fishing at sunrise, hiking wooded paths, or simply being near fresh water—these moments reflect the same sense of place and stewardship that defines her approach to wine.
At the heart of it all is a belief that wine is agricultural, communal, and meant to be enjoyed at leisure. Rooted in Northern Michigan’s farming culture and inspired by decades of hospitality, Kate is proud to help cultivate a wine experience that feels both elevated and authentically local.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys thoughtful food, quality ingredients, and working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Position is currently at least 2–3 days per week through the season, with additional opportunities available in the off-season as well.
